A different take on Valentine’s Day

I’m not a fan of clichés.

To be honest, I’m not particularly drawn to most holidays and celebrations — with the exception of Christmas, whose atmosphere I do love, and Easter.

Valentine’s Day, therefore, falls into the category of celebrations that don’t particularly excite me.

“But then, why dedicate a collection to it?” you might ask.

Because, as true as what I just said is, it’s equally true that I’m a creative who loves turning an idea into something tangible. In this case, the process felt surprisingly intuitive:

From the very beginning, I had in mind a union of two worlds I love most, which also happen to align perfectly with Valentine’s Day:

design pastry, jewelry, and flowers — the undisputed icon of this celebration.

Captivating aesthetics, combined with the experiential dimension, are at the core of LS Design Candles — and fine pastry speaks exactly the same language: shapes, colors, and details that transform a dessert into an experience that is first and foremost visual, before becoming sensory.

It is from this world that the two designs chosen for the collection were born: Swirl and Pulse.

Pulse, as someone who doesn’t embrace clichés, is not conceived as the classic “heart as a symbol of love” according to convention. I interpreted it instead as an invitation to look inward, toward the more emotional and intimate dimension of a relationship: one that does not need to be displayed, but exists as the product of personal experience.

In the ivory design, the butterfly becomes a symbol of transformation — that metamorphosis through which emotions take shape, change, and evolve. Nothing remains still, especially what we feel.

In the burgundy design, the two floral details represent the two individuals in a couple, reminding us that every bond is born from the meeting of two separate selves, each with their own history and point of origin.

The heart stops being a cliché and becomes a “lived” form — as it is, metaphorically, in its very nature.

Swirl was created as the natural counterpart to Pulse, exploring the other dimension of emotion: the physical, external, visible side.

I interpreted it as a symbol of passion and energy. The flame’s design, with its movement, visually conveys a force that does not remain contained, but manifests and expands.

The white floral detail is designed as a point of balance within this dynamic: it gives shape and direction to the impulse, a focal point. Even the most intense energy, after all, needs something to make it readable.

If Pulse explores the inner dimension of emotion, Swirl interprets its outward counterpart: energy, attraction, and physical presence.

As with every candle I create, Pulse and Swirl are born to tell a story.

A story made of symbols that go beyond what is immediately visible. In this case, the story is that of a bond observed from two different perspectives: what moves within and what takes shape outside, what evolves silently and what manifests loudly.

As I mentioned, this collection does not celebrate the conventional idea of love, but the possibility of interpreting it personally: two different and yet complementary visions, in dialogue with one another.

After all, this is what LS Design Candles does: transforming an emotion or a state of mind into form.

Because every candle is an invitation to observe what moves inside and around us, and to make it tangible.

Non sono un’amante dei cliché.

Se devo essere onesta non lo sono della gran parte delle festività e delle ricorrenze — fatta eccezione per il Natale, di cui amo l’atmosfera, e la Pasqua, di cui mi piace la simbologia.

Il San Valentino rientra quindi tra quelle ricorrenze che non mi entusiasmano particolarmente.

“Ma allora perché dedicarci una collezione?”, potrebbe essere la domanda che sorge spontanea.

Perché, com’è vero quello che ho appena detto, è altrettanto vero che sono una creativa a cui piace trasformare un’idea in qualcosa di concreto, e in questa caso il percorso è stato abbastanza intuitivo:

Fin da subito avevo in mente di creare un connubio tra due dei mondi che amo di più e che, allo stesso tempo, si intrecciano perfettamente con il San Valentino:

la pasticceria di design, la gioielleria e i fiori — icona indiscussa di questa ricorrenza.

L’estetica accattivante, unita al lato esperienziale, è il punto focale di LS Design Candles — e la pasticceria d’alta fascia parla esattamente lo stesso linguaggio: forme, colori e dettagli che trasformano un dolce in un’esperienza anzitutto visiva, prima che sensoriale. È proprio da questo immaginario che nascono i due design scelti per la collezione: Swirl e Pulse.

Pulse, da persona che non ama i cliché, non nasce come il classico “cuore simbolo d’amore” secondo convenzione. L’ho interpretata come un invito a guardarsi dentro, verso la dimensione più emotiva ed intima di un legame: quella che non ha bisogno di essere esibita, ma che esiste come frutto dell’esperienza personale.

Nel design ivory, la farfalla diventa simbolo di trasformazione, di quella “metamorfosi” attraverso cui le emozioni prendono forma, cambiano ed evolvono. Perché nulla resta immobile, soprattutto ciò che proviamo.

Nel design burgundy, i due dettagli floreali rappresentano le due persone della coppia, ricordandoci che ogni legame nasce dall’incontro di due individualità, ciascuna con il proprio vissuto e il proprio punto di origine.

Il cuore smette così di essere un cliché e diventa una forma abitata — come, in fondo, è anche nella sua dimensione metaforica.

Swirl nasce come controparte naturale di Pulse, esplorando l’altra dimensione dell’emozione: quella più fisica, esterna e visibile.

L’ho interpretata come simbolo di passione ed energia. Il design della fiamma, con il suo movimento, restituisce visivamente l’idea di una forza che non resta confinata, ma si manifesta e si espande.

Il dettaglio floreale bianco è pensato come elemento di equilibrio all’interno di questa dinamica: ciò che dà forma e direzione all’impulso, un punto di messa a fuoco. Anche l’energia più intensa, infatti, ha bisogno di qualcosa che la renda leggibile.

Se Pulse lavora sulla dimensione interiore dell’emozione, Swirl ne interpreta la controparte esteriore: l’energia, l’attrazione e la presenza fisica.

Come ogni candela che realizzo, anche Pulse e Swirl nascono per raccontare una storia.

Una storia fatta di simboli che vanno oltre ciò che si vede. In questo caso, la storia è quella di un legame osservato da due prospettive diverse: ciò che si muove dentro e ciò che prende forma fuori, ciò che evolve silenziosamente e ciò che si manifesta con forza.

Come ho già detto, questa collezione non celebra l’idea convenzionale dell’amore, ma la possibilità di interpretarlo in modo personale: due visioni diverse e complementari allo stesso tempo, in dialogo tra loro.

In fondo, è questo che LS Design Candles fa: trasformare un’emozione o uno stato d’animo in una forma.

Perché ogni candela è un invito ad osservare ciò che si muove dentro e intorno a noi, e a renderlo tangibile.
